Budget 2020-21: Sindh decides to increase salaries of govt employees

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday decided to increase salaries of government employees in the budget for the fiscal year 2020-21, ARY News reported. A special session of the provincial cabinet chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali has approved the budget proposals for the fiscal year 2020-21. According to details, Sindh cabinet has decided to increase 10 percent salary raise to employees of grade 1 to 16 while officers of grade 17 and above will get an increase of 5% in their salaries in the upcoming budget. Sindh budget with a total outlay of Rs1,250 billion will be presented today (Wednesday), in the provincial assembly. The budget for fiscal year 2020-21 will be presented by Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah. According to sources, Rs10 billion will be allocated to fight the novel coronavirus while the development budget would be Rs233 billion. It has been learnt that due to crunch financial situation amid coronavirus, the new jobs will only be offered in the Health Department. Rs23 billion would be allocated for the up-gradation and construction of five hospitals in the province. Comments comments


Govt to pay special focus on Sindh's poverty-stricken areas, says PM Imran

KARACHI: Special focus will be given to the poverty-stricken and backward areas of Sindh, said Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday evening as he arrived in the city to meet political allies and the PTI Sindh leadership to address important issues.  The prime minister said this during a meeting with the members of the core committee of the PTI Sindh at the Governor House. The premier is also slated to visit Larkana during his two-day visit to the province.  During their interaction with the prime minister, the members of the core committee of the PTI Sindh informed him about the ongoing development projects in the province, issues related to the Sindh government, and affairs of the party.  PM Imran said that the federal government had been trying its best to provide relief to people across the country during such testing times. He said that his government realised and knew about the problems of the people. He said that the coronavirus epidemic and poverty were twin challenges being faced by the present government. The prime minister assured the PTI members that special focus would be given to the poverty-stricken and backward areas of Sindh. He also directed PTI legislators to address the problems of their constituents as a top priority.  Those who attended the meeting included Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, MNA Aftab Siddiqui, MPAs Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Haleem Adil Shaikh, and PTI leader Ashraf Qureshi. Earlier, PM met Sindh Governor Imran Ismail at Governor's House. Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Zaidi was also present on the occasion. The meeting discussed issues related to the availability of medical care facilities in the provinces to tackle the coronavirus crisis, ongoing federally funded development projects, and political situation of the province. While stating that the federally funded development projects in Karachi and the rest of Sindh should be completed at the earliest, the prime minister maintained that the development of Karachi meant the development of the entire country.  He further said that Karachi was the hub of the economic activities in the country and full-fledged efforts were being made to develop Sindh including and the port city. He said that the development of Karachi would translate into the creation of massive job opportunities for the countrymen. Governor Imran Ismail, on the occasion, briefed the prime minister about the current status of federally funded development schemes being implemented in the province. Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Zaidi informed PM Imran about his interaction with different stakeholders on the issues of Karachi for adopting a joint strategy to resolve them.
